Question

I promised myself (Nazarth Li Allah) to finish Quran a certain number of times during this last Ramdhan if a certain thing I wanted happend. It did happen as I wished but I cudnt accomplish my "Nazr". What do you advice?

Is there a kaffara for not fulfilling the Nazr? Or would it be ok for me continue reading the Quran the no of times I promised myself n to Allah even the the time period, Ramadhan is finished?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

If a person took a verbal vow that he will fulfill a certain act of 'ibadah (that happens to be obligatory in its nature and counts as 'ibadah by itself) if such and such a thing happens and that thing does happen then he has to fulfill that 'ibadah even if the period that he specified for it has finished. [i] [ii]

The recitation of the Quran is a direct act of 'ibadah and obligatory in its nature since it is required for the validity of salah. As a result, a verbal vow taken for its recitation is valid and binding on the person. [iii]

You will have to continue your recitation of the Quran until if you have completed the number of recitations you mentioned in your vow.
