Witr salaah

Question

Assalamualaikum, would you please answer me how can I perform salatul witr. please answer as detail with dua Qu'nut.

Answer

In the Name of Allaah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salaamu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullaahi wa-barakaatuh.

According to the Hanafi madhab, Witr salaah is waajib and it is three rak’ahs, comprising of two tashahhuds and one set of salaams at the end. Qunoot is to be recited in the third rak’ah before rukoo’, preceded by takbeer and raising of one’s hands. When reciting qunoot, the hands will be folded[1].

According to the Hanafi school[2], the preferred du’aa for qunoot is as follows:

After performing the Witr salaah, it is Sunnah to recite the following praises thrice:

Glory be to the all-Sovereign, all-Pure.

And Allaah Ta’aala Knows Best.

ومن لا يقدر على هذا يقول: اللهم اغفر لي ثلاثا وهو اختيار الإمام أبي الليث أو يقول: اللهم {ربنا آتنا في الدنيا حسنة وفي الآخرة حسنة وقنا عذاب النار} [البقرة: 201] كما في معراج الدراية. وقال أبو يوسف يقرأ معه: اللهم اهدنا فيمن هديت وعافنا فيمن عافيت وتولنا فيمن توليت وبارك لنا فيما أعطيت وقنا يا ربنا شر ما قضيت فإنك تقضي ولا يقضى عليك فإنه لا يذل من واليت ولا يعز من عاديت تباركت ربنا وتعاليت فلك الحمد على ما قضيت ونستغفرك اللهم ونتوب إليك {وقل رب اغفر وارحم وأنت خير الراحمين} [المؤمنون: 118] .

قلت: فهل فيه دعاء موقت؟ قال: لا.
