Can I pay Zakah on my wife’s jewellery?

Question

I want to ask that, if i can pay zakaat on behalf of my wife jewellery. Is it permissible or not?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is compulsory to pay zakat on jewellery made from gold and silver[1]. You may pay your wife’s zakat on her jewelry with her consent [2]

[1] قال في الأختيار: و تجب في مضروبهما و تبرهما و حليهما انيتهما نوى التجارة او لم ينو ج1 ص 162 دار الارقم

[2] قال في حاشية الشامي: لما في البحر : لو أدى زكاة غيره بغير أمره فبلغه فأجاز لم يجز لأنها وجدت نفاذا على المتصدق لأنها ملكه ولم يصر تائبا عن غيره فنفذت عليه ا هـ لكن قد يقال : تجزي عن الآمر مطلقا لبقاء الإذن بالدفع . قال في البحر : ولو تصدق عنه بأمره جاز ويرجع بما دفع عند أبي يوسف . وعند محمد لا يرجع إلا بشرط الرجوع ا هـ تأمل
