Qirat in Salaah,Are prawns and squid specifically permissable or not to eat?

Question

1) When reciting quran in salat what is the minimum requirement on lines that must be recited, for example could i recite the first 10 lines of surah baqarah or ayat al kursi?

2) Are prawns and squid specifically permissable or not to eat? ( i have searched but still unsure)

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

1. The minimum amount of Qur’an that must be recited during salaah is three short verses (which is equivalent to approximately thirty letters), one long verse or one surah. [1]

2. According to the Hanafi Madhab, from the sea creatures, only that which falls under the category of “samak” (commonly translated as fish) is permissible to consume.[2]

A squid is not considered to be in the category of fish. Hence, it is impermissible to eat squid in the Hanafi Madhab.

[1] (وَضَمُّ) أَقْصَرِ (سُورَةٍ) كَالْكَوْثَرِ أَوْ مَا قَامَ مَقَامَهَا، هُوَ ثَلَاثُ آيَاتٍ قِصَارٍ، نَحْوُ {ثُمَّ نَظَرَ} {ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ} {ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ} وَكَذَا لَوْ كَانَتْ الْآيَةُ أَوْ الْآيَتَانِ تَعْدِلُ ثَلَاثًا قِصَارًا ذَكَرَهُ الْحَلَبِيُّ

(قَوْلُهُ تَعْدِلُ ثَلَاثًا قِصَارًا) أَيْ مِثْلُ - {ثُمَّ نَظَرَ}- إلَخْ وَهِيَ ثَلَاثُونَ حَرْفًا، فَلَوْ قَرَأَ آيَةً طَوِيلَةً قَدْرَ ثَلَاثِينَ حَرْفًا يَكُونُ قَدْ أَتَى بِقَدْرِ ثَلَاثِ آيَاتٍ.....

(قَوْلُهُ ذَكَرَهُ الْحَلَبِيُّ) أَيْ فِي شَرْحِهِ الْكَبِيرِ عَنْ الْمُنْيَةِ. وَعِبَارَتُهُ: وَإِنْ قَرَأَ ثَلَاثَ آيَاتٍ قِصَارًا أَوْ كَانَتْ الْآيَةُ أَوْ الْآيَتَانِ تَعْدِلُ ثَلَاثَ آيَاتٍ قِصَارٍ خَرَجَ عَنْ حَدِّ الْكَرَاهَةِ الْمَذْكُورَةِ يَعْنِي كَرَاهَةَ التَّحْرِيمِ. قَالَ الشَّارِحُ فِي شَرْحِهِ عَنْ الْمُلْتَقَى: وَلَمْ أَرَهُ لِغَيْرِهِ وَهُوَ مُهِمٌّ فِيهِ يُسْرٌ عَظِيمٌ لِدَفْعِ كَرَاهَةِ التَّحْرِيمِ. اهـ.

قُلْت: قَدْ صَرَّحَ بِهِ فِي الدُّرَرِ أَيْضًا حَيْثُ قَالَ: وَثَلَاثُ آيَاتٍ قِصَارٌ تَقُومُ مَقَامَ الصُّورَةِ وَكَذَا الْآيَةُ الطَّوِيلَةُ اهـ وَمِثْلُهُ فِي الْفَيْضِ وَغَيْرِهِ. وَفِي التَّتَارْخَانِيَّة: لَوْ قَرَأَ آيَةً طَوِيلَةً كَآيَةِ الْكُرْسِيِّ أَوْ الْمُدَايَنَةِ الْبَعْضَ فِي رَكْعَةٍ وَالْبَعْضَ فِي رَكْعَةٍ اخْتَلَفُوا فِيهِ عَلَى قَوْلِ أَبِي حَنِيفَةَ، قِيلَ لَا يَجُوزُ لِأَنَّهُ مَا قَرَأَ آيَةٌ تَامَّةٌ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ، وَعَامَّتُهُمْ عَلَى أَنَّهُ يَجُوزُ لِأَنَّ بَعْضَ هَذِهِ الْآيَاتِ يَزِيدُ عَنْ ثَلَاثٍ قِصَارٍ أَوْ يَعْدِلُهَا فَلَا تَكُونُ قِرَاءَتُهُ أَقَلَّ مِنْ ثَلَاثِ آيَاتٍ اهـ وَهَذَا يُفِيدُ أَنَّ بَعْضَ الْآيَةِ كَالْآيَةِ فِي أَنَّهُ إذَا بَلَغَ قَدْرَ ثَلَاثِ آيَاتٍ قِصَارٍ يَكْفِي

(قَوْلُهُ وَقَرَأَ الْفَاتِحَةَ وَسُورَةً أَوْ ثَلَاثَ آيَاتٍ) أَيْ قَرَأَ الْمُصَلِّي إذَا كَانَ إمَامًا أَوْ مُنْفَرِدًا عَلَى وَجْهِ الْوُجُوبِ مَا ذُكِرَ وَهُمَا وَاجِبَتَانِ لِلْمُوَاظَبَةِ.....

وَالثَّلَاثُ آيَاتٍ الْقِصَارُ تَقُومُ مَقَامَ السُّورَةِ فِي الْإِعْجَازِ فَكَذَا هُنَا، وَكَذَا الْآيَةُ الطَّوِيلَةُ تَقُومُ مَقَامَهَا فَإِذَا نَقَصَ عَنْ ثَلَاثٍ قِصَارٍ أَوْ آيَةٍ طَوِيلَةٍ فَقَدْ ارْتَكَبَ كَرَاهَةَ التَّحْرِيمِ لِتَرْكِهِ الْوَاجِبَ

فَالْحَيَوَانُ فِي الْأَصْلِ نَوْعَانِ: نَوْعٌ يَعِيشُ فِي الْبَحْرِ، وَنَوْعٌ يَعِيشُ فِي الْبَرِّ أَمَّا الَّذِي يَعِيشُ فِي الْبَحْرِ فَجَمِيعُ مَا فِي الْبَحْرِ مِنْ الْحَيَوَانِ مُحَرَّمُ الْأَكْلِ إلَّا السَّمَكَ خَاصَّةً فَإِنَّهُ يَحِلُّ أَكْلُهُ إلَّا مَا طَفَا مِنْهُ وَهَذَا قَوْلُ أَصْحَابِنَا - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ
