Question

Aww

I just wanted to ask people are saying mc donalds is halal in South Africa. Is this correct

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

There are many food outlets that claim to be halal. While there are halal certifying bodies who offer their invaluable services in the halal field and certify certain food outlets as halal, the certification is not necessarily absolute and error free. The halal certification of any halal authority is not a requirement of Shariah to determine halal.

According to Shari’ah, the criterion to determine any food as halāl or harām is the information of an Aadil person.

An Aadil person is characterised as,

A muslim,

Allah conscious and upright,

Has adequate knowledge of halal and haram.

If such a person informs that the food is halal and there is no reason to doubt his information, one may accept his information.
