Question
I wanted to know if it is permissible to donate blood to a blood bank so that it may be stored and used when needed?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is permissible to donate blood when there is a need. Since hospitals are always in need of blood and the need of blood transfusion may arise at any time, it is permissible to donate blood to a blood bank. However, the blood is not allowed to be sold. It has to be given free of charge .
