My father strictly forbade me from wearing Sunnah attire (Topi, kurta, turban). Can I go against his wishes?
Question
Assalamu 'Alaikum Mufti Sahib. My father thinks I will be in danger if I make my Muslim identity so apparently known by dressing like a Muslim. Can I do it anyway or do I have to abide by his wishes? Also, could I lie to him and tell him I'm not dressing that way so he doesn't worry? Jazakallahu khair.

In view of the prevailing situation, it is not permissible for a Muslim to conceal his Islamic identity, beard, etc. However, he should exercise precaution and guard himself to the best of his ability from being victimized.

Where scholars differ, it’s safer to take the more cautious view.

Is wearing a topi or turban sunnah?
“Fataawa Mahmoodiyyah states that it is Sunnah to wear a turban. However, by persisting upon a Mustahab act (such as regarding it as necessary to always wear an Amaamah), the act becomes Makrooh.”
