Reciting Quran on a Mobile phone without Wudhu - Is this permissible?
Question
Assalamualaykum, I used to recite Quran in my mobile phone due to some distractions and physical health problems and I do not know that it is not permissible to touch the letters even in mobile without wudu. So, the Quran which I recited in mobile earlier will be valid or invalid?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
We make Dua Allah Ta’ala cure you of your illness and grant you complete Shifa. Ameen.
In principle, one must be in the state of Wudhu in order to touch the Mushaf.[1] It is sinful to touch a Mushaf without wudhu. This principle is equally applicable when touching the actual text of the Quran on an electronic device.[2]
However, one must differentiate between touching the Quran and reciting the Quran. In principle, whilst it is necessary to be in the state of wudhu in order to touch the Quran, it is not a prerequisite for recitation of the Quran.
Accordingly, your recitation of the Quran was valid, however, you should make Taubah and Istighfar for touching the Quran and refrain from doing so in the future.
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
