Question

I borrowed somebody money when the time to pay me back came I just told that person to give that money on my behalf as my zakaat …. Is my zakaat done?

Answer

The Zakaat will not be discharged by doing this. The Zakaat must be given from the money that you have within your possession.

The correct procedure to hence adopt would be to first recoup and take possession of the debt and then you may give it back to him and instruct him to now discharge it as Zakaat on your behalf.
