Standing Or Sitting For Qiyaam While Performing Salaah Seated

Question

Please provide an explanation as to whether a person should stand or sit for Qiyaam when performing Salaah seated.

Answer

When a person cannot perform Sajdah on the ground due to a valid excuse, then there are two ways of performing the Salaah. One can either sit for the full duration of the Salaah or one can stand for Qiyaam and Ruku and complete the Sajdahs with gestures. However, Fuqahaa (Jurists) have mentioned the former as the better of the two.

In short, both ways are fundamentally permissible. It is hence a matter of how the Musallee himself feels comfortable.
