Question

Which Aayaat necessitate that Sajdatut Tilaawaah be performed?

Answer

According to the Hanafi school of jurisprudence, there are 14 Aayaat of the Qur’aan-e-Majeed after the recital of which Sajdah Tilaawaah becomes Waajib (compulsory) and has to be made. The 14 Aayaat are as follows:

1. Surah Al-A’raaf:7 – Aayah:206

2. Surah Al-R’ad:13 – Aayah:15

3. Surah Al-Nahl:16 – Aayah:50

4. Surah Bani israaeel:17 – Aayah:109

5. Surah Maryam:19 – Aayah:58

6. Surah Al-Hajj:22 – Aayah:18

7. Surah Al-Furqaan:25 – Aayah:60

8. Surah Al-Naml:27 – Aayah:26

9. Surah Alif Laam Meem Al-Sajdah:32 – Aayah:15

10. Surah Swaad:38 – Aayah:25

11. Surah Haa Meem Al-Sajdah:41 – Aayah:38

12. Surah Al-Najm:53 – Aayah:62

13. Surah Al-Inshiqaaq:84 – Aayah:21

14. Surah Al- ‘Alaq:96 – Aayah:19
