15th of Shaʿbān – Fasting
Question
When are the recommended days for fasting for the 15th of Shabaan please
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-Salāmu ‘Alaykum Wa-Rahmatullāhi Wa-Barakātuh.
Fasting during the month of Shaʿbān is recommended, as it serves as a preparatory period for Ramaḍān. Nabi ﷺ fasted abundantly during this month, more so than in other months apart from Ramaḍān.
However, there is no established evidence assigning a specific, independent virtue to fasting on the 15th of Shaʿbān alone. No fast has been authentically prescribed for this day as a distinct Sunnah or mustaḥabb act.
That said, if a person fasts on the 15th of Shaʿbān together with the 13th and 14th (the Ayyām al-Bīḍ), the fast is highly meritorious, as it falls under the well-established Sunnah of fasting three days every month.
Likewise, if one fasts on the 15th of Shaʿbān without believing it to have a special status in and of itself, but rather as part of the general Sunnah of fasting in Shaʿbān, such a fast is permissible, valid, and rewardable. [1]
And Allah Taʿāla Knows Best.
