Selling books that were supposed to be distributed free of charge

Question

A person was appointed to distribute books free of charge (for an organization). He began selling the books instead of distributing them. What should he do to rectify the matter?

Answer

The brother was appointed as a Wakeel to distribute the books free of charge, hence, it was incorrect for him to take money from people. He should try to locate the people from whom the money was taken and return their monies to them. If finding the owners is not possible, then these funds should be given out in charity.
