Validity of Wudhu due to food particles stuck in the teeth

Question

I made Wudhu for Asr Salaah and gargled thrice. I kept thinking a food particle is stuck where I generally find it stuck between my gum and tooth. When I got on my Musallah, I felt it come out went to the bathroom, spat it out and gargled my mouth again, then proceeded to read Salaah. Did my wudhu break? Is my Salaah valid? Do I have to repeat this Salaah?

Answer

To wash and gargle one’s mouth in Wudhu is Sunnah-e-Muakkadah. Hence, if Wudhu was made with a food particle stuck between the teeth, or in the mouth, and thereafter Salaah performed, then the Wudhu and Salaah will be valid. However, you acted correctly by removing the food particle (before performing Salaah), as swallowing a food particle larger than a lentil (during Salaah) will invalidate one’s Salaah.

وغسل الفم) أي استيعابه، ولذا عبر بالغسل أو للاختصار (بمياه) ثلاثة (والانف) ببلوغ الماء المارن (بمياه) وهما سنتان مؤكدتان مشتملتان على سنن خمس: الترتيب، والتثليث، وتجديد الماء، وفعلهما باليمنى (والمبالغة فيهما) بالغرغرة، ومجاوزة المارن (لغير الصائم) لاحتمال الفساد (الدر المختار ص115 ج1)

وغسل الفم بمياه والأنف بمياه وإنما قال بمياه ولم يقل ثلاثا ليدل على أن المسنون التثليث بمياه جديدة وإنما كرر قوله بمياه ليدل على تجديد الماء لكل منهما خلافا للشافعي قال أصحاب الحديث هما فرضان في الوضوء والغسل لمواظبته عليه الصلاة والسلام عليهما ورد بأن المواظبة ليست دليل الفرض.وقال الشافعي سنتان فيهما لأن الأمر بالغسل عن الجنابة يتعلق بالظاهر دون الباطن وعندنا سنتان في الوضوء وفرضان في الغسل (مجمع الأنهر 1/13)
