Masah on leather socks for a Ma’zoor

Firstly, leather socks should be worn after Wudhu. If it was worn before Wudhu, then the socks will have to be removed, and the feet washed when making Wudhu. Thereafter, when making Wudhu, one will be permitted to make Masah on the leather socks. This ruling will be applicable under normal circumstances.

Regarding a Ma’zoor, there are different scenarios which we have listed below:

1. A person is Ma’zoor at the time of Wudhu and wearing socks.

2. A person is not Ma’zoor at the time of Wudhu and wearing the socks.

3. He is Ma’zoor at the time of Wudhu, but not Ma’zoor when wearing the socks.

4. He is not Ma’zoor at the time of Wudhu, but Ma’zoor when wearing the socks.

If a Ma’zoor did not experience any other action that invalidates one’s Wudhu (besides the one that renders one Ma’zoor) and the Salaah time terminated, then the Ma’zoor will be required to renew his or her Wudhu, as a Ma’zoor is required to renew his or her Wudhu at the end of every Salaah time. Now, when renewing one’s Wudhu, one will be permitted to make Masah on the leather socks if they were not Ma’zoor at the time of Wudhu and at the time of wearing the socks, which has been listed in point number 2 above. In this instance, Masah on the socks will be valid for 24 hours for a resident, and 72 hours for a Musaafir.

In the remaining 3 cases (numbers 1, 3 and 4), it is will not be permissible to make Masah on the socks according to our Imaam Abu Hanifa, Imaam Yusuf and Imaam Muhammad Rahimahumullah, hence the socks will have to be removed and the feet washed.
