Tayammum of a person whose hand is amputated
Question
1. How does a person who is wheelchair-bound and has the right hand amputated (from the elbow) perform Tayammum?
2. Which finger can one raise when sitting in Sajda and reciting Tashahhud?
Answer
1. The Fuqaha have written that if a person’s hands are amputated, then he should simply pour water over the limbs of Wudhu. If he doesn’t have the ability to do that, then he will perform Tayammum. If his hands are injured or amputated and he does not have the ability to pour water, then he will rub his face on a wall or ground with the intention of Tayammum. If he does not have the ability to rub his face on the wall due to a wound, etc. then he will perform Salaah without Wudhu.
2. In the above scenario, one will not be required to lift one’s finger (in Tashahhud) since raising the finger of the left hand is prohibited.
