Question

Please advise if the following is correct and if it can be shared:

Ibraheem Bin Adham said: “Whoever masters (precisely controls) his stomach, will master his Deen; and whoever controls his hunger, will control the righteous traits (qualities). Verily, disobedience to Allah is distant from the hungry one, near the satiated one, and eating to the fill kills the heart, and from it is (excessive) laughter, exhiliration and joy.”

Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali in Jaami’ al-Uloom wal-Hakim under the Hadith of Al Miqdaam bin Ma’deekarib regarding the worst container the son of Adam can fill (the stomach).

Answer

This statement of Ibrahim bin Adham Rahimahullah is recorded in Jaami’ul Uloom Wal Hikam of Ibn Rajab Hanbali Rahimahullah and is suitable to quote. The Quraan Sharif mentions, “O you Rusul, Eat from the pure things and do good acts. Verily, I am Aware of what you do.” [Surah Mu’minoon Pg.51] This verse clearly indicates that good deeds are dependent on the food that we eat. Another verse states, “O People, Eat of the lawful and pure things of the earth, and do not follow in the footsteps of Shaytaan. Indeed, he is your open enemy. [Surah Baqarah Pg.168] Similarly, the Hadith quoted in the query is that the worst container which the son of Adam can fill is the stomach. This indicate that many Deeni matters may be rectified if our intake is in order. In conclusion, the post is in conformity with the Quraan and Hadith and may be quoted.
