Question
Is it permissible to invest in crypto currency or trade with Cryptocurrency?
Answer
Our Darul Ifta has reservations in regards to the Shariah compliancy of Cryptocurrency/Bitcoin. We therefore advise abstention. Consider the following Hadith:
Hadrat Nu’maan Bin Basheer Radiallahu Anhu says that he heard Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam say – Hadrat Nu’maan indicated towards his ears – “Verily Halaal is clear and Haraam is clear, and between them are doubtful things which most of the people are unaware of. The one who refrains from doubtful things will protect his Deen, while the one who falls i to doubtful things will fall into Haraam.”
From the above Hadith, we clearly understand the importance of refraining from doubtful
things.
