Question

Q. There were a few playstation competitions that took place recently, where you pay a fee to enter the competition and you compete against each other in a game, and the winner gets prize money, is this permissible ?

Answer

It is not permissible for Muslims to participate in such competitions due to the element of gambling. In these types of competitions, a sum of money is paid in lieu of an unknown return which is tantamount to gambling.
