Question

Q. When the Mu’azzin ends the Azaan and says La Ilaha Illallah at the end of the Azaan and we are replying to it, should we say just la ilaha illallah or we should add Muhammedur Rasulullah.

Answer

A.Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has advised that when hearing the Azaan, a person should repeat the words of the Mu’azzin (Sahih Muslim). Since “Muhammadur Rasulullah” after Laa Ilaaha Illallaah is not part of the Azaan, it should not be said. A person should suffice just by saying Laa Ilaaha Illallaah. (Ahsanul Fatawa).

NB. Upon hearing the Mu’azzin saying Hayya Alas Salaah and Hayya Alal Falaah, the listener should say ”La Hawla wa La Quwwata illaa Billaah” as indicated in the Hadith recorded in Sahih Muslim.
