Permissibility of Hemp Oil

Question

As salaamualiakum. Hope you in the best of health. Wanted to know if hemp oil is permissible to use internal or external. If not what is the alternative. JAZAKALLAH

Answer

The permissibility for using hemp oil is based on its type and the purpose of its use.

Food grade hemp oil: This is permissible to use whether internal or external.

Medical grade hemp oil used for severe pain management: The use of this is dependent on prescription of a competent Muslim medical professional when justified by requiring pain relief in severe medical cases. If prescribed, then it may be used internally and externally.
