What is the Iddah period for a pregnant woman?
Question
A man issued one divorce to his wife whilst she was pregnant. Then he issued a second divorce to her whilst she was pregnant. How long is her Iddah period? Is it a total of 6 Months, 3 Months for the first divorce and another 3 Months for the second divorce?
Answer
If a husband has issued one, two or three Talaaqs to his wife whilst she was pregnant, the waiting (Iddah) period of the woman ends upon the birth of the child irrespective of whether the pregnancy period is a short or a long period.
The number of Talaaqs issued during the waiting period does not have any bearing in regards to the length of the waiting period. (Tuhfatul Fuqahaa 2/243)
