Performing Ghusl due to Incontinence
Question
Q. I suffer from incontinence. When I’m at home, I can have a Ghusal bath every time I use the bathroom. I wanted to know if there is any leeway for those suffering from this disease. Would it be permissible for me to just make a fresh wudhu after using the bathroom, before every fard salaah or what would be the ruling?
Answer
Incontinence does not necessitate Ghusl. Performing Ghusl for this reason is a waste of water.
Only the washing of the skin affected and/or removal of the clothing/item soiled is required if the amount soiled is more than the size of a R5 coin.
Accordingly, you should use a liner or keep tissue paper in your underwear to absorb any impurities. Thereafter, remove it, wash the relevant area and make Wudhu before performing Salaah. (Hindiyyah 1:41)
