Question

What is the correct method of performing Sajdah Tilaawat out of Salaah?

Answer

The procedure of Sajdah Tilaawat out of Salaah is as follows: It must be performed in the state of Wudhu.

One will begin in the standing position and say: ‘Allahu Akbar’ without raising the hands

Go straight down into Sajdah

Read ‘Subhaana Rabbiyal A’ala’ three times

Arise from Sajdah whilst saying: ‘Allahu Akbar’.

There is no Salaam after standing up. Although it is better to begin and end this Sajdah from a standing position, it is also correct to commence and terminate it from the Jalsa (sitting) position. [Maraaqil Falaah 498]

The above-mentioned method may be followed for multiple Sajdah Tilaawah as well by standing after each Sajdah or sitting in the Tashahhud position before going to the next Sajdah. [Aap Ke Masaa’il Aur Unka Hal 4/232]
