Does my daughter’s son inherit?

Question

Q. Salaams. My husband & I have 1 daughter, no other children. We now have a grandson. We would like to know if he inherits from our estate? Shukran.

Answer

The daughter’s son is not an heir to you (the maternal grandparents). Thus, he will not inherit from your estate. However, if you wish for him to benefit from your estate, you can make a bequest in favour of him as long as it does not exceed one third of your assets.
