Imaam making masah on ordinary cotton socks
Question
If we perform Salaah behind an Imam who did not make masah of the neck and did not wash his feet. He only made masah on his ordinary cotton socks. Will the Salaah of the Imaam be valid and will the Salaah of the muqtadis be valid?
Answer
If the Imaam made wudhu and did not make masah of the nape, his wudhu will be valid since all the faraaidh of wudhu have been carried out. Masah of the nape is mustahab in wudhu. Hence his Salaah and the Salaah of all those who follow him will be valid. However if the Imaam did not wash his feet and sufficed on making masah over his ordinary cotton socks, then in this case his wudhu will not be valid. Therefore his Salaah and the Salaah of all those who follow him will not be valid as washing the feet is fardh in wudhu. Through omitting the fardh, the wudhu will not take place.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
