What to recite when entering and leaving the business place
Question
Please recommend a dua to recite when entering and leaving our business.
Answer
1. The following dua is recorded in the Hadith to be recited at the time when entering the business place:
Hazrat Buraydah (radiyallahu anhu) narrates that whenever Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) entered the marketplace (business place), he would recite the following dua:
In the name of Allah. O Allah, I beg of You the good of this market and what it contains; and I seek Your protection from the evil of this market and what it contains. O Allah, I seek Your protection from taking a false oath or making a bad deal (incurring a loss while trading).
2. Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) had taught the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu anhum) to recite ten verses of the Qur'aan Majeed when returning from the marketplace (business place). To acquire this virtue, one may recite any ten verses of the Qur'aan Majeed.
Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbaas (radiyallahu anhuma) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said, "Is anyone of you unable to recite ten aayaat from the Qur'aan when he returns from the marketplace due to which Allah Ta'ala will record for him one good deed for each aayah that he recites?"
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
