Placing the sutra slightly to the right or left

Question

In beheshti zewar it is mentioned that the when a person is using a sutra and performing salaah, it should be placed slightly to the right or left side and not directly in front of him. Please can mufti saheb explain the reason for this?

Answer

This appears in the Hadith.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

عن ضباعة بنت المقداد بن الأسود عن أبيها قال ما رأيت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلى إلى عود ولا عمود ولا شجرة إلا جعله على حاجبه الأيمن أو الأيسر ولا يصمد له صمدا (سنن أبي داود #693)
