Question

Is it permissible to perform twelve rakaats of tahajjud Salaah with one salaam?

Answer

In the Hanafi mazhab, it is not permissible for one to perform more than eight rakaats at night with one salaam.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

( وتكره الزيادة على أربع في نفل النهار وعلى ثمان ليلا بتسليمة ) لأنه لم يرد ( والأفضل فيهما الرباع بتسليمة ) وقالا في الليل المثنى أفضل قيل وبه يفتى

قال الشامي : قوله ( لأنه لم يرد ) أي لم يرد عنه أنه زاد على ذلك والأصل فيه التوقيف كما في فتح القدير أي فما لم يوقف على دليل المشروعية لا يحل فعله بل يكره أي اتفاقا كما في منية المصلي أي من أئمتنا الثلاثة نعم وقع الاختلاف بين المشايخ المتأخرين في الزيادة على الثمانية ليلا فقال بعضهم لا يكره وإليه ذهب شمس الأئمة السرخسي وصححه في الخلاصة وصحح في البدائع الكراهة قال وعليه عامة المشايخ وتمامه في الحلية والبحر (رد المحتار 2 /15-16)

( وكره الزيادة على أربع بتسليمة في ) نفل ( النهار و ) الزيادة ( على ثان ليلا ) بتسليمة واحدة

قال الطحطاوي : قوله ( وكره الزيادة على أربع بتسليمة في نفل النهار ) باتفاق الروايات لأنه لم يرو أنه صلى الله عليه وسلم زاد على ذلك ولولا الكراهة لزاد تعليما للجواز كذا قالوا وهذا يفيد أنها تحريمية اه سيد عن النهر (حاشية الطحطاوي على مراقي الفلاح ص392)
