Mistakenly giving Azaan and Iqaamah in the wrong ears of the newborn child

Question

A person mistakenly gave azaan in the left ear of the child and iqaamah in the right ear. He has only realized his mistake now, after five years have passed. What should be done in this situation.

Answer

It is mustahab that the azaan be given in the right ear and the iqaamah in the left ear of the newborn child. However, if one had given the azaan in the left ear and the iqaamah in the right ear, the azaan and iqaamah will be valid though he has left out the mustahab.

If one had realized at that time, then he should repeat giving the azaan and iqaamah according to the mustahab manner.

Nevertheless, now that a few years have elapsed, he will not need to repeat the azaan and iqaamah.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
