Coming late for Taraweeh

Question

When I reached masjid for tarawih, four rakath already finished, then I prayed first four rakath Isha and started for tarawih. When I started to pray for tarawih seven rakath is going on, after finishing tarawih by imam, still I need perform 6 rakath tarawih. In this situation what I need to do, whether I need to pray witr salaa to follow by imam with jamat first and then need to perform balance six rakath tarawih, or first I need to perform balance six rakath tarawih and perform witr salaah alone?

Answer

Yes. You may read the witr and then complete the balance of the taraaweeh.

(التراويح سنة) مؤكدة لمواظبة الخلفاء الراشدين (للرجال والنساء) إجماعا (ووقتها بعد صلاة العشاء) إلى الفجر (قبل الوتر وبعده) في الأصح فلو فاته بعضها وقام الإمام إلى الوتر أوتر معه ثم صلى ما فاته (ويستحب تأخيرها إلى ثلث الليل) أو نصفه ولا تكره بعده في الأصح (ولا تقضى إذا فاتت أصلا) ولا وحده في الأصح (فإن قضاها كانت نفلا مستحبا وليس بتراويح) كسنة مغرب وعشاء (الدر المختار 2/43)

وإذا فاتته ترويحة أو ترويحتان وقام الإمام إلى الوتر يتابعه في الوتر أم يأتي بما زاد فإنه من الترويحات؟ فقد اختلف مشايخ زماننا فيه وذكر في واقعات الناطفي عن أبي عبد الله الزعفراني أنه يوتر مع الإمام ثم يقضي ما فاته من الترويحات (المحيط البرهاني 1/466)

وإذا فاتته ترويحة أو ترويحتان فلو اشتغل بها يفوته الوتر بالجماعة يشتغل بالوتر ثم يصلي ما فات من التراويح وبه كان يفتي الشيخ الإمام الأستاذ ظهير الدين (الفتاوى الهندية 1/117)
