Standing in an aeroplane and performing Salaah

Question

In the aeroplane I think it is very inconvenient firstly for myself, secondly for the passengers and thirdly for the air hostesses if I read namaaz standing, can I read it sitting?

Answer

No. In contemporary times all planes allow namaaz to be performed standing. Just ensure you do not interrupt the aisles and feeding times.

من فرائضها التحريمة ومنها القيام في فرض لقادر عليه ومنها القراءة ومنها الركوع ومنها السجود ومنها القعود الأخير قدر التشهد ومنها الخروج بصنعه (تنوير الأبصار مع رد المحتار 1/442)

( إذا تعذر على المريض كل القيام ) وهو الحقيقي ومثله الحكمي ذكره فقال ( أو تعسر ) كل القيام ( بوجود ألم شديد أو خاف ) بأن غلب في ظنه بتجربة سابقة أو إخبار طبيب مسلم حاذق أو ظهور الحال ( زيادة المرض أو ) خاف ( بطأه ) أي طول المرض ( به ) أي بالقيام ( صلى قاعدا بركوع وسجود ) لما روى عن عمران بن الحصين قال كان بي بواسير فسألت النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم عن الصلاة فقال " صل قائما فإن لم تستطع فقاعدا فإن لم تستطع فعلى جنب " زاد النسائي " فإن لم تستطع فمستلقيا لا يكلف الله نفسا إلا وسعها " ( ويقعد كيف شاء ) أي كيف يتيسر له بغير ضرر من تربع أو غيره ( في الأصح ) من غير كراهة كذا روي عن الإمام للعذر

و قال في حاشية الطحطاوي : قوله ( وهو الحقيقي ) أي ما ذكره المصنف أولا هو التعذر الحقيقي وقوله ومثله الحكمي أي ومثل التعذر الحقيقي التعذر الحكمي وهو التعسر ، قوله ( أو غيره ) كاحتباء أو جلوس على ركبتيه كالتشهد لأن عذر المرض أسقط عنه الأركان فلأن يسقط عنه الهيئات أولى كذا في الشرح (حاشية الطحطاوي على مراقي الفلاح ص430-431)
