Question

Me and my father were in a new town at the time of salaah. My father used some kind of compass and found the Qiblah direction. The next day we found the Qiblah to be different, as my father made some kind of mistake or the compass didn’t work properly, maybe 90 degrees in different direction was what we originally faced. Must the salaah read in the wrong direction be repeated?

Answer

The right procedure was to find out the qiblah direction from someone living in that town before using the compass. If there was someone to find out from and you had not asked them then repeat the salaah. Otherwise, the salaah will be valid.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

How do I find the qiblah direction?

“Primarily, one is not allowed to face the exact Qibla while relieving himself/herself nor turn his/her back towards Qibla as mentioned in various Ahadith due to the sanctity of the Qibla.”
