Replying to the sneeze

Question

When a person is sneezing multiple times should alhamdulillah be recited after each sneeze and should others reply as many times as is sneezed, or after 3 times should they stop?

Answer

It is Sunnah to say Al-Hamdulillah each time one sneezes. However if one sneezes more than three times, it is not compulsory upon those present to reply to the sneeze.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

وأما العطاس فالأصح أنه إن زاد على الثلاث لا يشمته خلاصة

قوله ( فالأصح الخ ) وقيل مرة وقيل إلى العشر وقيل كلما عطس ح وإنما يجب تشميته إذا حمد الله تعالى كذا في شرح تلخيص الجامع (رد المحتار 2/117)
