Eating prasad from a Hindu

Question

Recently one of my Hindu friends knocked at my room door in the hostel and gave me a slice of apple. He said it is Prasad so I took it and kept it one side in my room and I didn't eat it... Did I commit a sin? One scholar told me that only eating meat is not allowed of Hindus... we can eat fruits or sweets. I am really confused.

Answer

It is right for you not to eat it. You may bury it somewhere, and in future ask him not to give you such things.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Where scholars differ, it’s safer to take the more cautious view.
