Question

Can a wife call her husband by his name?

Answer

The great jurist, Allamah Shaami (rahimahullah) has mentioned that it is reprehensible (makrooh) for the wife to call the husband by his name. Hence, when addressing him or calling him, she should call him with a respectable title e.g. if he is an aalim or haafiz, she may call him Haafiz Saheb or Moulana. If he is not an aalim or haafiz, she may refer to him as the father of her eldest son or daughter e.g. Zaid's father or Faatimah's father.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
