Applying Itr when leaving the home at night

Question

I have been told to not apply itr when leaving the home at night (after Maghrib). The scent apparently attracts Jinns which is said to be bad. Please advise on the authenticity of this belief.

Answer

This is not established in the Ahaadith of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam). Hence, it is permissible for males to apply itr when leaving the home at night.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
