Cutting off communication with one's brother

Question

I have some issues with my brother. He is very jealous of me and day by day it is becoming very hard for me to communicate with him. If I stop talking to him, will I be a sinner? Kindly help me out.

Answer

Do not cut off communication with him as this is breaking off family ties which is not permissible. We are commanded in the Hadith to maintain family ties and treat our family with kindness and respect even if they are rude towards us. Hence, when you communicate with him, then speak to him politely. After salaah make dua for him and ask Allah Ta’ala to bless your family with unity.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
