Performing Forty Salaah in Madina Munawwarah

Question

Some people say you must perform forty Salaah in Madina Munawwarah. What is the status of this Salaah?

Answer

It is not compulsory, however it is preferable. It is reported by Hazrat Anas (Radhiyallahu Anhu) that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: "“The one who performs forty salaah in my Musjid without missing any salaah in between receives the certificate of freedom from the fire of Jahannam, he gains salvation from punishment and he becomes pure from hypocrisy.”
