Showing respect to an old Quraan cover

Question

I have a fabric cover on my Quraan for many years. It has become threadbare in some places. I want to change it. Can I add this old cover to my fabric scraps?

Also, as a child my mum had covered my Quraan first with paper and plastic wrap. When I remove it can I throw it away? I am confused as I don't wish to be disrespectful.

Answer

Preferably, show it more respect compared to your other fabric.

Though it is not a requirement, but to keep your mind clear of not showing any disrespect, we advise that you do not throw it away, but bury it or burn it.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
