Applying lip balm and creams made from alcohol

Question

1. Can we apply lip balm containing cetearyl alcohol as there is a chance of swallowing the lip balm when the lips are licked. Is is permissible?

2. Creams and lotions containing alcohols such as benzyl, cetyl are applied to the skin. While eating from hands the taste of the cream can be felt. Is it valid and permissible?

Answer

1. If the alcohol contained in it is not from dates or grapes, then it is permissible to apply it on the lips.

2. As above.
