Paying back interest when taking a loan

Question

If one took a riba based loan, and he repents, should he repay only the capital portions of the loan or also the interest on the loan?

Answer

One should only pay the capital loan amount. However, if there are legal implications that one will have to face if one does not pay the riba amount, then if one pays it, he should sincerely repent and beg Allah Ta'ala to forgive him for getting involved in the grave sin of interest.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
