Meeting one's non-Muslim mother's boyfriend
Question
I went for a day out with my mum and sister and thought it would be only women but when we went for food, my mums boyfriend came. Have I sinned by meeting with a man I didn't know he was gonna come? I thought it would be just women. My family are non Muslim and I didn't talk to my mums partner except to say hello.
What's the ruling when the following happens?
Answer
Make taubah for meeting and speaking to the non-Muslim man. In future, don't go to these places where the laws of purdah are not upheld and your deeni values will be compromised.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Where scholars differ, it’s safer to take the more cautious view.
