Forgetting to recite Surah Faatihah in the second rakaat of a sunnah salaah
Question
During the second rakaat of a sunnah salaah, someone while reading another surah, remembers that he forgot to read Surah Faatihah. Thereafter, he reads Surah Faatihah and another surah. Must this person perform sajdah sahw or not?
Answer
Yes, he should make sajdah sahw.

وقد قدمنا في ذكر الواجبات أنه يجب تقديم الفاتحة على السورة وأنه يجب أن لا يؤخر السورة عن قراءة الفاتحة فكذا لو بدأ بالسورة ثم تذكر يبدأ بالفاتحة ثم يقرأ السورة ويسجد للسهو وإن قرأ من السورة حرفا كذا في المجتبى وقيده في فتح القدير بأن يكون مقدار ما يتأدى به ركن عن قراءة الفاتحة (البحر الرائق 2/101)
ولو أخر الفاتحة عن السورة فعليه سجود السهو، كذا في التبيين. (الفتاوى الهندية 1/126)
فمن كان من واجب القراءة يجب سجود السهو بتركه حتى إذا ترك فاتحة الكتاب أو السورة فعليه، وتذكر بعدما قرأ بعض السورة يعود فيقرأ بالفاتحة ثم بالسورة، وكذلك إذا تذكر بعد الفراغ من السورة أو في الركوع، فإنه يأتي بالفاتحة ثم يعيد السورة ثم يسجد للسهو. (المحيط البرهاني 1/501)
ولو قرأ الفاتحة وحدها وترك السورة يجب عليه سجود السهو، وكذا لو قرأ مع الفاتحة آية قصيرة؛ لأن قراءة ثلاث آيات قصار أو آية طويلة مع الفاتحة واجبة، ولو أخر الفاتحة عن السورة فعليه سجود السهو (تبيين الحقائق شرح كنز الدقائق 1/193)
