Women wearing lipstick, eye-liner, etc. when leaving the home
Question
Is there any specific ayah or Hadith that says a woman cannot leave her home wearing make up like lipstick , eyeliner, etc?
Answer
The Hadith prohibits women from applying perfume when leaving the home. Grave warnings have been sounded in the Mubaarak Ahaadith for a woman who perpetrates such a sin. Nabi (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) has said that a woman who applies perfume when leaving the home and passes by a group of strange men, (then through attracting them towards her) she is counted as a prostitute in the sight of Allah Ta'ala. Accordingly, a woman who does not observe Shari'ee hijaab when leaving the home and she allows herself to be viewed by strange men is guilty of committing two sins; the first is not observing shari'ee purdah before strange men and the second is leaving the home in an indecent manner (i.e. through applying lipstick, eyeliner, makeup, etc. when leaving the home).
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
