Question

Is istinja necessary before every wudhu?

Answer

No, it is not necessary.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

( و ) صفة ( الاستنجاء ) ليس إلا قسما واحدا وهو أنه ( سنة ) مؤكدة للرجال والنساء لمواظبة النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم ولم يكن واجبا لتركه عليه السلام له في بعض الأوقات وقال عليه السلام " من استجمر فليوتر ومن فعل هذا فقد أحسن ومن لا فلا حرج " وما ذكره بعضهم من تقسيمه إلى فرض وغيره فهو توسع وإنما قيدناه ( من نجس ) لأن الريح طاهر على الصحيح والاستنجاء منه بدعة وقولنا ( يخرج من السبيلين ) جرى على الغالب إذ لو أصاب المخرج نجاسة من غيره يظهر بالاستنجاء

قال الطحطاوي : قوله ( يخرج من السبيلين ) خرج به حدث من غيرهما كالنوم والفصد فالاستنجاء منه بدعة كما في القهستاني (حاشية الطحطاوي على مراقي الفلاح 43-44)
