Is it permissible to say have a happy new year when Islamic new year starts (month of Muharram starts)?

Is it permissible to say have a happy new year when the Gregorian calendar new year starts (month of January starts)?

If its not permissible to say have a happy new year then what is the reason?

What did Prophet Peace be upon him and the Sahabah do or say to each other when the new year commenced?

Answer

1 - 3. It is forbidden to use these types of greetings that have kufr connotations.

4. In the day of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu anhum) a new year was not an event to be celebrated and where they would merry make. This is an innovation of the ignorant of later years.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
