Question

I need to know the period of I’tikaaf (the last 10 nights of Ramadhaan spent in the Masjid)

1) For how many days we can do I’tikaaf? I heard for 10 days only.

2) Is there any one (Male/Female) can do I’tikaaf of 3 days?

3) What are the orders for woman to do I’tikaaf? Can she do it at home?

Answer

1. 10 days are sunnat and there is no limit for nafl I’tikaaf.

2. Yes. One may sit for nafl I’tikaaf.

3. A woman may observe I’tikaaf in her home. She should specify one room of the house, preferably the room where she normally performs her namaaz etc. She should then not leave the room unless for her humanly needs.
