Performing Janazah Salaah with shoes

Question

Assalaamu alaikum warahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

I was recently told after a janazah prayer that I shouldn't be wearing shoes unless it is raining. Is this true? I thought it was permissible as long as they are clean?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is permissible to perform Janazah Salaah with shoes on as long as the shoes and the surrounding area of the shoes are free from all impurities. [i]

However, one should not perform general Salaah with shoes on unless there is a pressing need to do so.
