Paying debts with money set aside for Sadaqah

Question

I set aside some money every month to give to Sadaqah. However, I have fallen in a small debt. I wanted to know if I can use the money I set aside to pay of my debt?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, the money set aside for Sadaqah will only be specified for Sadaqah when it is donated. The money that you have set aside for Sadaqah will not be regarded as Sadaqah. Therefore, you may pay your debts from the money you have set aside for Sadaqah.[1]
